Head of International Engagement – Australian Museum- Sydney Based. 
EP Australia is partnering with the Australian Museum (AM) to appoint an exceptional, strategic and hands-on leader to grow AM’s global reach, reputation and revenue. Reporting to the Director, Museum Experience & Engagement, you will develop, implement and oversee a long-term international strategy that increases AM’s global visibility and maximises impact and income from international activity.
A core part of this role is leading AM’s touring exhibitions program (with an outbound focus), alongside international consultancy, strategic partnerships and global advocacy initiatives. You will also help identify and secure world-class touring exhibitions for Australian audiences, while positioning AM exhibitions for outbound touring opportunities.
What you’ll lead
  • International strategy & delivery – Set direction, priorities and KPIs; track performance and outcomes across international activity.
  • Touring exhibitions (outbound focus) – Drive outbound touring opportunities for AM exhibitions, while supporting a strong pipeline of world-class touring exhibitions for Australian audiences.
  • International consultancy & advocacy – Grow consultancy opportunities and global advocacy initiatives that extend AM’s influence and impact internationally.
  • Contracts, logistics & delivery – Negotiate complex international agreements and coordinate exhibition logistics across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Partnerships & senior representation – Build and maintain relationships with museums and cultural organisations, governments, scholarly institutions, foundations and funding bodies worldwide; represent AM at senior levels.
  • Team leadership – Lead, support and develop the Touring Exhibitions team within the Museum Experience & Engagement division.
What you’ll bring
  • Demonstrated success in international cultural programming and touring exhibitions, with strong outcomes across visibility, revenue and stakeholder impact.
  • Confidence building senior international partnerships and representing an organisation on the global stage.
  • Proven ability to deliver complex, multi-stakeholder projects end-to-end, including loans/conservation requirements, logistics, contracts, budgets, risk and compliance.
  • Strong leadership capability, paired with commercial acumen and disciplined financial management.
  • A genuine commitment to cultural responsibility, access and inclusion, including knowledge of First Nations cultural protocols.
  • Experience securing external funding for international programs (highly regarded).
Essential requirements
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (or equivalent skills and experience).
  • Ability and willingness to travel internationally to manage touring exhibitions, partnerships and representation.
Role details
  • Classification: Clerk Grade 11/12
  • Salary: $149,739 – $173,174 + super + leave loading
  • Employment type: Full-time, ongoing (35 hours per week)
  • Reports to: Director, Museum Experience & Engagement
