  • Head of Development See Saw & Garth Davis

    Head of Development See Saw & Garth Davis

    Project

    ​Garth Davis, Australian director whose work includes Lion  (with Dev Patel) and Mary Magdalene (Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix), has joined forces with See-Saw Films producers Iain Canning and Emile Sherman (The King’s Speech) on a new production venture. Under the moniker I Am That, the 50-50 partnership will develop feature film and TV projects for Davis to direct and produce alongside Canning and Sherman. An pre-existing relationship saw EP Australia approached (prior to formation of the JV) to run a confidential search for a Creative Executive - Head of Development.

    Results

    The newly-created role required nurturing and had to be built from the ground up. EP Australia's task was to find a candidate with broad knowledge and connections, who could help Davis get through the overwhelming amount of opportunities being presented to him. The person needed to be strongly creative to be able to connect with Garth's vision to unearth relevant projects and drive creative acquisition and development. A thorough international search delivered the perfect outcome, with the new Head Of Development described by Davis as 'having creative talents and intelligence second to none, and our tastes are all deeply aligned'

    Project

    The company had a large existing slate of several local productions, plus a recently formed JV with US-based Stampede Ventures. To move ahead they needed someone to spearhead the development of internationally marketable features and TV projects. Getting the placement right was critical for their next phase of growth. The successful candidate needed to be a seasoned professional with credits and industry gravitas. Someone with top-tier connections with financiers, buyers, talent, writers and directors; an EP with the ability to produce ambitious and bold stories to captivate global audiences. Words like ‘’internationally successful, entrepreneurial, commercialisation, fearless and curious’’ led the brief. Additionally, they had to be compatible with the existing Kojo team and embrace their core values and shared vision. To fit in this person needed to be authentic and caring - care for the team, their work and their clients.​

    Results

    Given the critical nature of the role, EP Australia’s depth of knowledge in the scripted content marketplace meant the role was finalised to a tight deadline. A widespread search resulted in 73 people expressing interest in the role, with a shortlist delivered to Kojo in 2 weeks.
